May 1 and 2 brought a windfall of legislative victories for multiple marginalized groups in The United Methodist Church. Among them was a petition entitled “Granting Sacramental Authority to Deacons in Their Ministry Setting” which was adopted by the body of the Conference. Two deacons share their story.

Against the backdrop of historic legislation marking an end to 52 years of restrictions, the United Methodist Church unveils plans for a Center for LGBT Heritage, aiming to preserve and amplify the voices of queer individuals within the denomination.

General Conference attendees gathered for a Service of Lament, Confession, and Hope. This service was conducted in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French. The liturgy acknowledged the harm done through sexual misconduct, including harassment and violence, in and outside The United Methodist Church.

On Thursday, delegates voted overwhelmingly in favor of key portions of the worldwide regionalization proposal that aims to restructure The United Methodist Church to be connected across the globe AND give space for local cultural expression and autonomy. More action is coming in the days ahead.

Amidst the business of General Conference, LYNC offer attendees an opportunity to pause and recharge with therapy dogs. The first visited on Thursday with additional dogs available on Friday and Monday.

Through sweatshirts and tote bags emblazoned with brightly colored designs and stitchwork, Juliet Nabukalu is empowering women in her rural Ugandan village to develop their own income in a post-COVID world.
