Translation Opens Doors

The LYNC Website offers pages in five languages.

The Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) has been working to connect with United Methodists from around the globe for over twenty years. A recognition that we can’t overcome cultural differences until we know one another is the key to this outreach.
Removing, or at least reducing the barrier of language is one part of this outreach and relationship building. So, LYNC has made translation a key part of its focus at the General Conference.

While the Commission on General Conference provides translation for plenary, legislative, and other official business of conference, they do not provide translation for hallway conversations or programs by unofficial organizations. LYNC has stepped up to fill this gap with a team of translators helping build bridges with language. You may see them in the hallways or supporting international worship, lunch programs, informational gatherings, and other events around the General Conference's periphery.

In addition, the LYNC Website uses automated translation to support English, French, Portuguese, and Swahili. This allows articles (like this one) to be accessible. An automated service uses machine learning to translate the website pages. While some of the exact nuances of a human translation may be missing, this system allows more information to be shared with a wider audience.

If you’re looking for help with translation, you can reach out to the LYNC Global Relationships team at globalrelationships@lyncoalition.org.
