LYNC Decries staffing and funding Cuts for Ethnic Organizations

The Love Your Neighbor Coalition (LYNC) has responded to recent cuts to funding and staffing within The United Methodist Church for ethnic caucuses and international relations.

Key staff positions at the General Board of Church and Society and Ethnic funding in the General Commission on Religion and Race have been eliminated. Dr. Mittie Quinn, Co-convener of the coalition sums up the group's position saying, “It is crucial at this time in the UMC that leadership work together to cast a vision of inclusion and support for all people, but especially for those who have long been marginalized by the institutional church.”

The LYNC letter comes on the heels of another letter by the Native American Caucus of The United Methodist Church focused on the termination of Rev. Neal Christie from his critical position at the Board of Church and Society.

Both letters call for United Methodist Leaders to reassess their decisions and take actions that match stated values opposing racism, discrimination, colonialism, and marginalization of ethnic, indigenous, and native populations.
